The PORTAL concentrator is an innovative device designed for intrinsically safe data transmission in underground workings, making it suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. It features five intrinsically safe RS485 ports, two intrinsically safe 100Base-FX single-mode fiber optic ports, and a radio transmission module operating in the ISM band. This versatile device is integral to the infrastructure supporting communication, data transmission, identification, and tracking of underground workers, as well as equipment and material logistics.
To ensure safety in hazardous environments, each PORTAL device is enclosed in a special intrinsically safe casing* made of IP67-rated vinyl ester resin reinforced with fiberglass. For applications where intrinsic safety is not a requirement, we offer a non-intrinsically safe version of the PORTAL concentrator. While lacking the specialized enclosure, this version is equipped with an Ethernet port (in place of one of the fiber optic ports) to provide additional connectivity options.
The PORTAL concentrator seamlessly integrates with our FixCom communication system, enhancing its functionality by offering advanced data handling and tracking capabilities. It acts as a central hub, gathering data from wire nodes, tags, and our tracking gate system. The portal features a high-performance CPU that efficiently analyzes and compresses data before transmitting it to the server. This data is then processed and transmitted to a server via copper cable or fiber optic, enabling real-time monitoring and management of personnel and assets in underground environments. The device also supports easy upgrades to existing FixCom systems, allowing for cost-effective implementation of advanced tracking features without extensive modifications.
