The Portas system is an advanced tracking solution tailored for underground mining operations. Utilizing active RFID technology, the system employs tags typically mounted inside cap lamps and on assets, communicating with a network of Nodes  (WireNodes and rfNodes) to deliver precise location data. This robust system seamlessly integrates with our FixCom communication infrastructure, ensuring both communication and tracking functionalities are handled by one comprehensive solution.

At the core of the Portas system is the Portal device, an advanced signal and data concentrator. The Portal aggregates data from WireNodes, tags, and localization gates, making data processing and transmission efficient and straightforward. This data is then relayed to the central server via copper cable or fiber optic connection, allowing for easy integration with existing systems.

Real-time tracking is a key feature of Portas, enabling the tracking of workers and assets on a digital mine map. Even in the absence of a map, localization data remains accessible in text or table formats, ensuring comprehensive monitoring capabilities. The system’s ability to assign specific worker names to tags enhances safety and accountability by enabling personalized tracking.

The system also includes zone tracking (gates), where continuous tracking is not possible or uneconomic. These gates provide essential tracking without requiring high precision, making them suitable for various operational scenarios. For sites already using the FixCom system for communication, upgrading to include tracking is both straightforward and cost-effective, adding significant functionality without necessitating major changes to the existing setup.
